The gift of a bequest and the legacy it leaves

  • Lucy Marrett
  • July 14, 2023

As Christians, countless ministries are faithfully sharing the Gospel. With this comes incredible opportunities to support these ministries, whether it be with our prayer, volunteering, or financial resources.

Leaving a bequest is a specific financial way that many choose to support a ministry. Not only does this form a partnership between the individual and the ministry, it also ensures that the work of leading people to Christ will continue well beyond one person’s lifetime.

The ministry of PYNSW

Presbyterian Youth New South Wales (PYNSW) is a youth focused ministry whose goal is to equip the church to disciple all youth for Christ. PYNSW has been faithfully serving this vision since 1872:

  • Presenting the Gospel of Jesus as the true and only way of salvation
  • Calling young people to an obedient acceptance of Christ as their Saviour and Lord
  • Helping youth to mature in their understanding of the life, death, resurrection and teaching of Christ through study of the Bible, prayer and fellowship
  • Encouraging youth to commit themselves to Him as Lord, to join the membership of the Church and devote their lives to the service of God.

One example of a partner and friend who left a significant and lasting bequest to PYNSW is Margaret Friend. Margaret left a bequest to PYNSW in her will in 1933. The money and resources from her bequest are still benefitting and supporting PYNSW to this day. You can read more about Margaret, the legacy of her life, and her bequest here.

Leaving a bequest to PYNSW

Bequests can significantly help organisations with their long-term planning. Most clearly, they can help organisations to plan to faithfully use financial resources that they know they will eventually receive.

Leaving a bequest with PYNSW will help PYNSW continue to faithfully reach and teach the next generation of young people who Jesus is and what difference He makes to each and every life. The work of PYNSW in equipping churches to build effective youth ministries is key to the long-term growth and sustainability of the Presbyterian Church in NSW.

PYNSW provides training and direction for young people looking to serve Christ for their lifetime. It is our prayer that this ministry will be able to continue until the day of Christ’s return. A bequest will reflect the partnership you have with this important ministry.

There are three options for leaving a bequest in your will to PYNSW including:

  1. Giving a specific amount of money
  2. Giving a percentage of your estate
  3. A residual bequest – a gift of whatever remains of your estate after family and other commitments have been fulfilled

If leaving a bequest in your will is something you feel called to do, PYNSW wants to hear from you! Leaving a bequest to PYNSW serves as a great encouragement to them and helps them to plan for the future of the ministry.

Sharing this information with PYNSW will be treated in confidence, and gives them an opportunity to thank you personally. To get in touch with PYNSW, please send an email to admin@pynsw.org.au
