We understand that sending youth to camps, including PY Summer Camp, can be a significant financial commitment.
We have interviewed one keen supporter of PYNSW Summer Camp, Diane Beringer about the different fundraising efforts she has helped organise to financially support the youth in her church to go to PY Summer Camp.
As Youth Leaders in the early 2000’s, Diane Beringer and her husband Dean, witnessed many youth from their church’s youth group (Hope at the Hill, Rooty Hill Presbyterian Church), return from PY Summer Camp on fire for Jesus. Diane and Dean knew that they had to make sure they could also send their kids to camp in the future.
Diane shares, “Our kids attend public schools and are increasingly aware of how different their lives are from their peers as they seek and strive to live for an audience of One. The joy of ‘belonging’ on camp alongside like-minded brothers and sisters In Christ is profound.”
In order to guarantee that their children, as well as other youth, have the awesome opportunity to go to PY Summer Camp, Diane has helped run a number of fundraising events including…
- A car wash after church with a BBQ lunch
- Bacon and egg rolls before church
- Collecting glass bottles, plastic bottles and cans to recycle at Return & Earn stations for 10c each.
- Diane reflects, “10c each doesn’t seem like much but to date, my kids have raised $3, 200 through this!”

- Definitely plan your fundraising events at the beginning of the year.
- Put it in the church calendar.
- Get ideas from the young people in your church.
- Promote it in advance.
- Interview the youth upon their return from camp so that the congregation is encouraged by their growth and energy.
